State Fire Marshal promotes electrical safety following Eunice fire fatality

EUNICE, La. (KPLC) - State Fire Marshal Chief Bryan J. Adams is promoting awareness regarding potential electrical hazards after a fire in Eunice ended in one fatality.

Acadia Fire District responded to an emergency call regarding an RV fire in Atterbury Drive at around 2:30 a.m. on May 1, and discovered the body of a 67-year-old resident.

The cause of the fire has not yet been revealed, however relatives of the victim stated that before the fire the victim expressed concern over electrical activity within the RV, according to St. Landry Parish deputies.

The statement issued by the State Fire Marshal’s Office provided several examples of how to prevent these electrical risks, including avoiding overloading power strips or extension cords and the importance of using licensed electricians when getting electric work done within a residence.

Adams expressed the importance of fire alarms in an environment, as there were none inside of the RV. Adams said that smoke alarm testing is highly important and provided information on the Operation Save-a-Life campaign.
