Oregon baseball drops series finale to No. 25 Utah

Pitching carried Oregon in a doubleheader sweep of Utah on Saturday but was its undoing in Sunday’s series finale.

Logan Mercado allowed five runs on five hits, one walk and a hit batter in 1.1 innings and the Ducks could not complete a comeback bid in a 9-7 loss to the No. 25 Utes Sunday afternoon at PK Park.

“We’re disappointed in the fact that we weren’t able to sweep the team that came in here in first place,” Oregon coach Mark Wasikowski said. “We win a series and we’re disappointed; the standard is high obviously, when you win a series and guys are really disappointed. And so I’m glad that that’s the standard here.”
